HOW DID YOU MET

We always knew of each other whilst at school but it wasn’t till after we had finished that our worlds collided at a country race meeting in Trangie NSW – I was 17, Alec 18. We danced and talked all night long and I guess you could say we were pretty inseparable after that.

YOUR ENGAGEMENT STORY

Alec proposed in England in a little town called Petworth where Alec and I were living at the time. He demanded to go for a walk in Petworth Park this wasn’t unusual as we often did so, but as soon as he decided to sit me down on a park bench – I knew something was up. After about 20 minutes of talking and not making much sense he finally got down on one knee. Of course, it was a YES! We had to wait about 12 hours due to time difference to tell family and friends, but it was quite nice to be in our little bubble of engagement bliss!

WHAT MARRIAGE MEANS TO YOU

A lot of people said to us “oh nothing changes when you get married” but Alec and I feel a little different about that. We have started a new chapter in our lives and we feel that our relationship has also. I guess we just appreciate each other on a whole new level.

GROOM + GROOMSMEN ATTIRE

Groomsman suits were all MJ Bale

JEWELLERY & ACCESSORIES

My headpiece was made by Jane Taylor Millinery London. It was quite the statement but with my dress being quite simple, I felt like I could get away with it! My diamond earrings were gifted to me by my parents on my wedding day and matched my oval engagement ring.

HAIR & MAKEUP

I don’t wear a lot of make up so I just completely left it in the hands of the professional - Emy Clare Beauty! We went with a natural look with a soft bronze / brown eye. I knew I wanted to wear my hair down because Alec prefers it that way. The lovely Kayla Goss Bridal did a soft beachy wave and we added some extensions just to give my hair some more volume and hold. These two women are complete angels and I couldn’t recommend them more!

PREPARATION – COUNTDOWN BEGINS

I got ready at my home in Scone with my bridesmaids and my niece who was our flower girl. It was so nice to sleep and wake up in my own bed on the morning of the wedding. We grazed from cheese and fruit platters all day and before I knew it I was getting in the car to go and get married!

THE DRESS

I custom designed a dress with the lovely girls from Moira Hughes Couture. The whole process was so enjoyable – I had a strong idea of what I wanted my wedding dress to look like and it was so incredible to see it come to life.

BRIDE’S SHOES

They were from Bella Belle and I purchased them from The White Collection. I never thought I would wear such a bridal shoe but the small pearls and delicate tulle on the shoes matched my headpiece and veil perfectly!

WEDDING LOCATION/ VENUE

Belltrees, Scone.

Belltrees is a special place to us because it is Alecs family property, he grew up there and one day we will live and raise our family there.

WEDDING SONGS

Aisle Song - To Build A Home by The Cinematic Orchestra

Recessional - This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) by Natalie Cole

First Dance - All Night Long by Lionel Ritchie

CEREMONY

Even though we were married in the garden, we actually used a local Reverend as we wanted our ceremony to have a slightly more religious feel. It was only 20 minutes long but we managed to still throw in a hymn and some readings from the bible.

THE FLOWERS & BOUQUETS

Since we got married in the garden, I wanted all the flowers to feel like they had just been freshly picked from the garden and the ladies at Worn Out Wares in Singleton absolutely nailed it

BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES

I knew exactly the shape and colour I wanted but I sadly couldn’t find the dress on the rack so I ended up getting them custom made by Nelder Jones in Paddington, Sydney.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Lucy Douglas from Lucie Weddings. Apart from being the most incredibly talented wedding photographer in the biz, Luc was actually an old friend and I knew I wanted to have a familiar face to capture our big day! She is a complete legend and if you can lock her down for your wedding date – do it, you won’t regret it!

My engagement ring is an oval solitaire set in rose gold and was designed by Alec with the help of Octavia Jewelry in London. She also designed our wedding bands.

STATIONERY/INVITATIONS

All our wedding stationery was done by the extremely talented and professional Carina Chambers from Tamworth. Carina also illustrated the drawing of the Belltrees Homestead which was a huge feature across all our wedding stationery, I know she spent hours and hours on this drawing and it seriously paid off. Carina gifted us the original drawing as a wedding present – something we will cherish forever!

DID YOU STICK WITH THE TRADITION OF FAVORS /BONBONNIERE?

Carina also has her own table linen company called Long Lunch Linen. She sourced Duck Egg Blue Linen Napkins which she had embroidered with every guest’s name. They acted as a bonbonniere as well as guests’ napkins and name cards.

FOOD & BEVERAGES

We had a sit-down dinner and served our food family style which meant everyone helped themselves to whatever they felt like with platters being put down on each table. Our menu was mostly Italian inspired – with Alec’s favorite desert Affogato to finish.

ENTERTAINMENT

Our band were called Venus from Newcastle and were hand-picked by Alec himself. They were so awesome and belted out tunes until the AM.

YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT

Probably mid entrée – when the band decided to play Horses by Darryl Braithwaite and everyone decided to get up from their seats and started spinning there napkins around in the air. At the time we were worried people wouldn’t sit back down and finish their meal but we look back on it now and think WOW - the atmosphere was just electric!

OTHER MEMORABLE MOMENTS

Seeing Alec standing at the end of the aisle was something I will never forget. No nerves, I was just so extremely excited to see him!

HONEYMOON TIME BABY!!!

We wanted to do absolutely nothing but sit by the beach and drink cocktail after cocktail – for that reason we went to Tokoriki Island Resort in Fiji.

IF YOU COULD GIVE OTHER BRIDES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE…

Try and make things logistically easier on yourself and for everyone involved – less chance of it blowing up in your face!
