HOW DID YOU MET?
Luke and I met in January 2016 at my place in Bondi having a little house party. He came along with a mutual friend of ours and we pretty much hit it off the first night we met. Luke says he knew that I was “the one” that night as after a few bottles of rose down I came out onto the balcony in my snow boots and old basketball jumpsuit and he is a massive fan of dress ups.
YOUR ENGAGEMENT STORY
As a birthday gift Luke took me to Queenstown in NZ to go boarding. We boarded for a couple of days then we had a day off and he said that he had another surprise for me (obsessed with surprises). It was a helicopter ride up to the top of one of the snowy mountains. We got out at the top of the mountain and took some pictures, was amazing up there. Luke then asked the pilot to take a video which I thought was a photo and he then got down on one knee and proposed. Neither of us can remember what each other said, it was such a rush.
WHAT DOES MARRIAGE MEANS TO YOU?
Marriage to me means laughing everyday, being there for one another in every way. Never having obstacles that you can’t overcome together. Growing old and grumpy together.
-WHAT DREW YOU TO YOUR DRESS DESIGNER – CHRSTIE NICOLE?
I loved when looking at some of Christie’s previous designs that they were all so different. The detailing of all of them was so beautiful. I knew two brides who had their dresses made from Christie previously and looking at who those ladies were the dresses they wore suited them to a tea!
-TELL US ABOUT YOUR GOWN
My insane dress is actually a corset and skirt. The top is structured boned corset with pleated tulle sleeves and flower applique detailing (strapless). And the skirt is a high-waisted pleated tulle tiered skirt and a roughly 1 meter train at the back.
-WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION FOR YOUR GOWN?
My inspiration for my dream dress was to have something that suited my body shape (pear) and to feel very “pretty”. Haha I’m a bit of a tomboy so I wanted my dress to be out of this world amazing and was everything that I had dreamed of and more.
-WHAT WAS THE PROCESS OF DESIGNING THE GOWN?
I met with Christie (who I instantly fell in love with, it felt like I had known her for years), and we chatted about designs and I had some inspiration pictures as well. We then started with the sampling and the more we did the more excited I became. I was obsessed with even the calico fit . Christie and I worked together to source the fabric, which the pleated tulle we sourced from Italy.
My final fitting my mum came with me! CRIED!!!! I can’t tell you the feeling I had when I tried on the final piece. I knew I was getting married, but putting on the dress at the final fitting, made it proper real and I couldn’t wait until our wedding day!!
My hair on the day was middle part and wavy and my makeup was quite natural, not too much with brown/nude eye shadow.
THE FLOWERS & BOUQUETS
For my bouquet I chose white roses and for my bridesmaids quicksand roses. We wantedour florals for our styling and reception area to be mainly dried florals. We sourced dried ferns, pampas grass, leaves that fallen from trees, threw in a few cool looking sticks
GROOM + GROOMSMEN ATTIRE
Luke wore a navy tux from Rembrandt and the groomsman wore black tuxes also from Rembrandt
• Ceremony/Reception Venue - THEME & STYLE
Our vibe for our wedding was earthy, neutral tones. We wanted to use mainly dried plants that we sourced. We had a massive roof installation made out of pampas and dried plants. We had 3 long tables with a bridal table at the front. We had crystal glassware for the tables, with rose gold cutlery. My dad make candle boxes that sat in the middle of the tables, we had a roof full of fairy lights.
IF YOU COULD GIVE OTHER BRIDES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WHEN CHOOSING
A WEDDING GOWN WHAT WOULD IT BE…
Try on a few dresses first, see what you like. As for many it may be your first time trying on dresses and you might think you like a style, but then you end up loving something completely different.
