YOUR ENGAGEMENT STORY
On our holiday to Queenstown, NZ in 2017, we got a helicopter to a glacier in Queenstown with two of our close friends. It was my first time touching the snow and not even 24hrs into our trip and Steve got down on one knee of top of a mountain on a world re-nouned famous glacier that we took a helicopter to get too, and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. Incredible!
WEDDING LOCATION/ VENUE
Fig Tree Restaurant & Rooms, Byron Bay, Australia. Byron Bay has always been a very sentimental town for me. I would go there at least once a year when I would visit my sister who lives in Coolangatta. We would day trip there every trip I took, it became our tradition. Byron is beautiful, full of delicious food, beaches and just has a very tropical relaxed vibe which sums up Steve and myself perfect. From the get go I told Steve when I met him that if we were to marry, it would be in Byron Bay, and he certainly wasn’t complaining!
PREPARATION – COUNTDOWN BEGINS
Myself and the girls stayed on the property of Fig Tree the night before.
I wore the Poppy Stardust gown by Rue De Seine. The dress has a form fitting structed bustier with a dramatic full skirt, contrasted by the use of bold heavy corded lace. I wanted my wedding gown to be very snug on my body and accentuate my curves. I had it altered to my body by The Emergency Button in Double Bay, Sydney.
If I wore high heels, I would have collapsed like a baby giraffe. So, I stuck to what I was comfortable in and wore a pair of white slides by Sol Sana.
Designer of the bridesmaid dresses is Bec & Bridge. Very simple and elegant slip dress that went to below the knee, complemented by a scooped neck and back supported by thin spaghetti straps. The colour was a beautiful butter yellow which was just enough colour to contrast of the pampas grass and orchids in our bouquets.
Translucent 6-inch heels by Steve Madden to add volume and height to the dress without taking any attention away.
My engagement ring is a Pear-shaped clear diamond set in white gold on a yellow gold band. Both Steve & I’s wedding bands were made by the same local jeweller.
I wore two necklaces, both from YCL. And a pair of cross earrings from Luv AJ.
HAIR & MAKEUP
My hair was extremely long for my wedding, past my belly button. I had it out with a few curls. Simple and easy!
I used all my own products for my makeup and did majority myself with the help of the makeup artist that did the girls makeup- Alexis Mahoney. I just did my same every day makeup. Working at an airport, you get good at doing makeup haha so I didn’t want anyone else doing it for me.
FLOWERS & BOUQUETS
No colour, lots of textures and white. I basically said those three things to my florist Mikarla at Wilderness Flowers, and let her surprise me! Flowers are a florist domain and I feel like she knew what vibe I was wanting, so I completely left the control up to her! Sent her what all our dresses looked like and she worked with it and DID NOT disappoint. I could not have been any happier with the selection.
GROOMS + GROOMSMEN ATTIRE
Everything was purchased on the website- MINTED
Benjamin Carlyle- the most epic human/wedding celebrant you will ever meet! The most legendary celebrant you will ever come across! Balances all the professional, hilarious, chilled vibes like a crazy love guru. Ben ensures your guests feel all the love and involvement, while also maintaining the reason why everyone is gathered. Ben makes sure you have your feet on the ground while enjoying the crazy ride of wedding planning and the big day itself. He made myself and my husband feel so ourselves that we could comfortably and confidently say our special vows to one another in front of all of our favourite humans, a public speaker’s nightmare! I could not have found a more well-suited celebrant to ensure Steve and I have the very best start to this wonderful chapter in our lives. I will be forever grateful for the memories Ben shared with us on our special day!
CEREMONY DÉCOR/ RECEPTION DÉCOR
Bohemian & Tropical. I selected items off the wedding shed website.
I wanted no colour present in the theme of our wedding. Very natural and organic colours. I would say our theme was quiet bohemian and tropical, with very lush textures. Simplicity is key.
WEDDING PLANNER/ WEDDING STYLIST
My wedding planner from Byron Bay Weddings- Nicole. Furniture by The Wedding Shed.
Chocolate cake bottom layer and Raspberry sponge for the top tier. Cake by Sweet Obsessions.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR FOOD & BEVERAGES
We just had canapes, wanted the cocktail theme for our wedding, nothing too formal. It was all catered by Fig Tree Catering and it was amazing. We also had Prosecco, Pinot Grigio, Rose, Beer and Steve and I’s fav cocktail ever- MARGARITAS!
I was already on site; Steve and the boys got a uber ha-ha classy. We organised transport for our guests- A large double decker old school red bus from Byron Bay Double Deckers.
Our photographer/videographer was Jess from Wilde Visual with the help of her colleague Ben. I could not recommend a better team if I tried. They were absolutely unreal! Professional and fun, they were like camera ninjas on the day, all of our guests were also stunned on how low key they were yet still capturing every raw and intimate moment. As I said before, I’m not a bright colour gal. I really love natural. And when deciding on our photographer, Jess was the best fit for us as her photos were as natural and un-edited as they came.
A MEMORABLE MOMENT
You cannot put it down to just one moment. The whole day you are in the moment. The whole day is a complete memory.
ONE THING I WISH I KNEW BEFORE I STARTED MY WEDDING PLANS…
Do not let other people’s or family members opinions impact your decisions for your wedding day. It’s YOUR DAY.
IF I COULD GIVE OTHER BRIDES TO BE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE
People & Movies make wedding planning sound like such a mission, a struggle in fact. Revolving around stress and organisation. You do need to be organised, but I think its so important to enjoy planning. You are creating a dream, a day that will be kept very close to your heart. When you feel stressed, remind yourself to enjoy every waking moment, because the time leading up the wedding goes just as quickly as the wedding day itself.
We are off to Europe for 6 weeks for a European Summer in May!
