Mewburn Park Homestead

We were lucky enough to have a chat with the owners Julia & Adam from Mewburn Park Homestead,

A 400 acre private property and working farm offering a beautiful colonial Homestead dating from the 1850’s,

that is Melbourne’s ultimate venue for weddings and events.

Located in the heart of Gippsland’s food and wine region and tucked behind an oak tree lined driveway,

the sanctuary of Mewburn Park has lush gardens, tranquil walkways and ponds that ooze serenity.

Mewburn has 4 stunning areas to say I DO in front of, The Stables, The Old Oak Tree, The Gardens, or the Homestead.

Each suiting your particular style, and then to top it off they offer a incredible 20 x 10 metre clear-view marquee offering

plenty of space for a sit down evening or a relaxed cocktail party

. . . . .

Take us back us back to the beginning, what was the drive behind opening up a wedding venue?

It was all a bit surreal when we first met each other - realising we shared the same dream. Adam had always wanted to turn his family property Mewburn Park into a B&B/Wedding venue and Julia had always wanted to do the same thing in Germany. We both started our careers in Hospitality and events, then ended up as Graphic Designers. Now we get to combine all our experiences into our passion, Mewburn Park weddings and events!

How long has the venue been running?

We had our first wedding in October 2017. It was an absolute mad rush to get everything finished by then (think; faulty towers) but it all worked out in the end and it was such a beautiful wedding. Before we had opened we already had 16 bookings for our first season. So, it was a great relief to see that after our ‘open day’ all our booked couples were happy with the end result.

What would you say the venues aesthetic and style is that makes your business stand out and attract your clients compared to other venues?

It’s lush, it’s diverse, it’s old and it’s new…

What we hear a lot of couples saying is that they love that you can have both a ceremony here and also the reception, and the 2 can be in complete different locations with a different vibe. It’s nice to see the couple and their family and friends relax and enjoy the day from ceremony through to reception, as no one has to jump in a car and go to the next location.

The photo opportunities here are pretty vast too. From the meandering driveway and it’s old oak trees, through to the rustic stables, old English gardens, ponds to farm charm in the back paddocks. The old prickly pear cactus is quite popular at the moment too. #trending!

Our clear-view marquee with the concrete floor is also pretty epic for the reception. It’s a clean-look space that can be transformed into anything that the couple wants. And to sit down for dinner and see the sun setting across everyone, birds swooping over you and then the stars above - it’s like you’re all sitting outside.

The best part of running a wedding venue?

It’s completely corny, but we love the love! Seeing couples during their ceremonies, listening to the vows and hearing their speeches at the night is just the best. We love building a relationship with the couples, so we can make sure we are supporting in any possible way. We really love working with all the different vendors. We have a great community here in Gippsland where everyone loves to have fun while they work, always creating the best outcome for their clients. From photographers, stylists, florists, hair & makeup, entertainment, furniture hire - each one brings a different energy and vibe to the wedding.

Your most memorable moment of business so far to date?

Our very own wedding here. We figured that we should be the first getting married here and testing the place out. And also, winning an award for best function venue in Central Gippsland, which was voted on by the people of our region. It does feel amazing when what you are doing and putting all your hard work, effort, dreams in is recognised and appreciated.

Can you talk us through pricing?

For sure. We have a location fee, which is based on how long you would like to use the property for. We are a private property, so if you have booked your wedding here with us, you won’t be bumping into any other bride or grooms on the day! You can chose from Ceremony only, just reception, ceremony and reception, or the Premium Package where the girls can check-in to the bridal suite and get ready here - so you pretty much have the property to your self for the whole day. Starts from $1500 up to $4100. And for the drinks: we are a licensed premise, that means we run the bar. We have 5 gourmet caterers for you to choose from, and they all work with different prices and packages.

Contact us for our wedding packages and it’s loaded with all the details ;)

Who’s your top 5 list of suppliers that you would recommend?

OOOOH! This is like asking Mama who their favourite child is! We have our recommended suppliers list for our booked couples - and they are ALL awesome. We all work together to deliver the best service and quality for your special day. And it’s always fun meeting you people that our couples bring in or that we meet along the way.

Is there any exciting plans for the venue coming up?

Or weddings that are just level or little secrets you can share with us?

As for the venue, oh yeah! We have just purchased a new marquee which is due to arrive from Germany this winter, ready to go for our next season. It’s a bit more stream lined with wide 5m clear walls and the ceiling has an inner lining that creates shade, helping us more with our day time events. There will also be some development on the property - which is our little secret and you’ll need to watch this space :) We call it the Madonna effect - staying fresh and changing every couple of years! As for actual weddings, we have our first twilight ceremony booked and we are so so so excited YAY. We have also seen that some of our couples bring in that Byron Bay boho style - which we love. And also a few that will have that classic cocktail style where you feel like your sipping cosmo’s on a roof top bar in Manhattan. This is where our clever local furniture hire companies help to create something next level.
