WEDDING DATE | 5th April 2019
GUEST NUMBERS |120
VENUE | CASA MIO - Surf Hacienda | Cresent Head
HOW DID YOU MET
We met at the Beach Hotel in Byron Bay in 2016 where I was celebrating my 30th birthday with my girlfriends and Jake was there for a friends bucks weekend. From there we danced, we drank, we laughed and it was not long after that he told me that his mum would just love me! Since then, we have been inseparable and the rest as they say is history.
YOUR ENGAGEMENT STORY
Jake proposed to me on the front porch of our home as he arrived from work. It was really beautiful and emotional as we were both in tears and I was holding our son Nash in the rain. I was so surprised, confused and overjoyed with happiness. I’m fairly certain neither of us got the correct words out to make it an actual proposal but it was a really beautiful moment.
WHAT MARRIAGE MEANS TO YOU
A lifelong journey with your best friend filled with unconditional love and appreciation for one another.
WEDDING LOCATION/ VENUE
Our wedding was held at the Spanish inspired property Casa Mio Surf Hacienda, which is just 5 minutes from the quiet NSW surf town of Crescent Head. We fell in love with the venue instantly and had spent many weekends away together along the mid north coast. We loved the relaxed styling of the venue and the natural elements that were within its design - complemented by exposed timber beams, rustic fire pits and cactuses throughout. The three acre property also features an incredible bloodwood tree which provided the stunning backdrop for our afternoon ceremony.
JEWELLERY & ACCESSORIES
I wore Dior pearl earrings with a draped chain detail and a matching Dior bracelet. They were delicate, elegant and were the perfect finishing touch to my outfit.
I also wore a single tier pearl detailed veil by Dove Grey Bridal.
I felt I could have a bit of fun with my jewellery and accessories as my dress was so clean and minimal in its design.
PREPARATION – COUNTDOWN BEGINS
My mum and sister got ready with me on the day in the main casa which was really special. My sister Arianne had prepared pamper packs for us that included monogrammed linen robes by Pomme, Estée Lauder Powerfoil Facemasks, Glow Skin Superfood Sachets by Kora Organics and of course fluffy white slippers.
HAIR & MAKEUP
My hair was styled in a relaxed low bun to showcase the low neckline and open back of my dress. My make up was really simple and natural with a bronzed dewy glow. Joanna was amazing in making me feel really comfortable and confident on the day and really listened to what I envisioned.
I have always loved the clean lines and timeless elegance of Michael Lo Sordo’s designs and knew the Alexandra Gown would be perfect for our relaxed coastal wedding. With its beautiful open back and fluidity of the silk satin, it was a stunning dress from every angle.
For the reception I changed into the Net Pleat Strapless Dress by Dion Lee. I loved this dress as it’s a such a modern interpretation of a classic bridal silhouette whilst still being so much fun for twirling on the dancefloor.
My dress had a high slit on one side so I knew I needed to have beautiful heels that I loved. These vintage Bally heels were perfect as they were unique and elegant in its design with the slim sculpturalheel.
My sister who walked down the aisle holding our baby boy Nash, wore a silky batwing midi dress in the colour nutmeg. The bold sleeves, v neckline and subtle ruching made it a classic cut with a vintage feel.
FLOWER GIRLS/PAGEBOY OUTFITS
Nash wore a white linen button up shirt from Zara, black trousers from Billie The Kid and little sneakers from Country Road.
• Ceremony/Reception Venue - THEME & STYLE
In terms of the inspiration, we wanted a “Palms Springs” vibe with a luxe earthy feel. We both wanted the tone of the day to be relaxed in the setting and elevated in the details
Our ceremony was held under the shade of a beautiful bloodwood tree with the acoustics of Duan & Only in the background setting the scene. We kept the styling very simple with rows of hardwood bench seats for our guests and an arbour that was made especially for us by our good friend Shane. The arbour also featured a stunning floral installation of white flowers and dried palms created by Leanne of Ellerslie Flowers.
My engagement ring was custom designed by Annie Macpherson.I loved it so much as it was simple, contemporary yet unique in its design. As it almost looks like two rings in one,I decided not to have a wedding band and preferred my engagement ring as it is.
Jakes wedding band was byThis Is Henson.
THE FLOWERS & BOUQUETS
I kept the flowers very simple and elegant throughout with a focus on whites and neutral tones.
My bouquet consisted of draping phalaenopsis orchids surrounded by baby’s breath.
The arbour for the ceremony featured a flower installation of phalaenopsis orchids, reflexed roses, baby’s breath and dried palm leaves. We also had floral arrangements in brass vases following the same theme across the tables for the reception.
GROOM + GROOMSMEN ATTIRE
Jake wore a suit was by MJ Bale and the Craftsman Boots by RM Williams
We knew as soon as met our celebrant Brooke Bell that she had the right energy and natural approach to lead our ceremony and set the right tone for the day. She was very calm, honest and professional during the planning and made a great effort to make sure our day was memorable. Most importantly she ensured our day was personalized, authenticand truly “us”.
The reading below was read by Jake’s nephew Noah
“I believe there are people that have lived in you all along before unravelling into tangible reality. When I say this, I mean with a clear, unwavering certainty. I recognized you before seeing. I wanted you before understanding. I knew you without knowing. And I choose you without hesitation..”
– Victoria Erickson
As our wedding was planned in the space of eight weeks, we skipped the save the dates and went straight to Paperless Post invitations. We chose a modern minimalist design with a luxe feel that featured a white textured paper finish and gold embossed-like palm trees.
WEDDING PLANNER/ WEDDING STYLIST
Jake and I had a really strong vision for the toneof the day and how we wanted the wedding to look and feel. We both wanted it to have a very relaxed atmosphere and but still really elegant and polished in the details. Luckily we have some clever and creative friends and family who helped to bring this to life. Salt & Wildflowers were also our on-the-day co-ordinators and helped to make sure everything ran smoothly so we could really relax and enjoy our day.
FOOD & BEVERAGES
For our dinner service our guests enjoyed a selection of shared platters by head chef Matt Bray from Paddock to Plate. He created a menu for us whichcelebrated freshseasonalproduce from the regions local farmers, that are sustainably and ethically sourced.
August & Lucy provided the drinks service in their restored vintage caravan that’s been converted to a bar. Our bar menu featured Coconut Margaritas as our signature cocktail along with a selection of our favourite wines, spirits and beers.
Walking down the aisle –So into You – Childish Gambino cover of Tamia
Recessional – Let’s Stay Together – Al Green
First Dance – All Night – Chance The Rapper
Duan & Only performed during the ceremony and for the first few hours of the reception. He has the most amazing voice and really set the mood for the day.
My good friend James Ryan kept the celebrations going on the dancefloor and into the late hours of the night. We had a mix of houseanddisco but it was the Queen classics that were the favourites.
RECEPTION DÉCOR & DETAILS
As the venue already has so much character and personality, we didn’t do too much with styling and just added some florals and brass accents.
The reception was set around the casa where our guests enjoyed a grazing board and sipped on coconut margaritas. We had a relaxed cocktail setting with rows of tables styled in softly draped muslin, statement brass palm tree candelabras and white floral arrangements with dried palm leaves. We also had a few lounge areas with cane seating amongst the succulents, and bench seats around the fire pits.
Two tier semi naked vanilla spongecake with a buttercream icing. It was baked by the local Barnett’s Bakery and dressed with a white draped phalaenopsis orchid. It was absolutely delicious and there was not a single piece left over!
The very talented Lucie Douglas photographed our wedding and she did such an incredible job of capturing our day. I was drawn to Lucie’s naturally effortless style in photographing those truly special moments in between. She has such a warm friendly energy about her but it’s her attention to detail and editorial flare that made her stand out from the rest. Wehonestly couldn’t be happier withthe photographs from the day.
YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT
There were so many special moments that were memorable, but being walked down the aisle by my dad was the definitely the stand out. It was so emotional being surrounded by all our loved ones and seeing Jake at the end of the aisle holding our son Nash - such an incredible moment.
HONEYMOON TIME BABY!!!
We had our honeymoon in Bali with our son Nash who was 8 months old at the time. It was so nice and relaxing as we would spend our days by the pool in our villa with Nash, and our nights wining and diningwith each other. The weather was incredible, the food is delicious, and the people are so lovely and accommodating especially when you are travelling with a baby. It was the perfect balance of quality family time and spending time together as newlyweds
