Take us back us back to the beginning, where does your story begin? How does it feel now looking back at where you started and where the brand is now… Did you always feel that you would go in the direction of bridal when you first started with lingerie. What drove you to start a bridal brand?
When I finished high school I then went onto study a Bachelor of Design for 3 years. once I finished the course at age of 21 I got an internship at Karen Walker in New Zealand. At this stage I always knew I wanted my own label and work for myself but wasn’t sure what doing. I then moved to New Zealand and completed my internship of 2 months and then ended up get a job and stayed on for another 6 months & then moved back home to Sydney.
This is when I then started my lingerie label Christie Nicole in 2013, handmaking bralettes from home and selling them online.
Ever since I started designing a few of my close friends always said they wanted me to make their wedding dress and I always responded NO, at this time I just didn’t see myself doing bridal wear at all.
It was in the year of 2016 that a girl I knew through mutual friends asked me make her wedding and reception dress. I agreed to do so with the help of my grandma (it was the best decision I ever made). Once I shared images of what I had created for Kym my journey with bridal began. It is such an amazing feeling to have your designs loved by so many people & I can’t thank Kym (my first bride) enough for believing in me to create magic for her.
What does a typical few days sound like when you’re in the studio, as we know no day is ever the same, and being that you’re a custom make brand.
Before my days start there is a lot of planning and organising. Every day is so different. One day I will be designing, the next I’ll be patternmaking, meeting potential brides, fabric shopping etc.
If I have a final fitting come up I will solely just be working on that piece at that time. I am very lucky I now have a wonderful intern Gabrielle who helps me on Tuesday’s, the best at organising my life. Then there is Olivia who works for me who comes in Thursday’s and Friday’s and is in charge of all the sampling. I don’t know what I would do without her.
Your based in Sydney … are you’re a studio or shopfront? where is the studio/ shopfront based and tell us about it, your favourite little corner and what makes it your home away from home?
I have a little studio / renting a room off a lady who actually wholesales bridal fabrics. I was so lucky to meet her. My space is definitely my second home as I spend most of my time there.
My favourite little corner would be where my mirror & flower installation is. Where the first look is for my brides trying on samples and final fittings.
Tell us some more about the process that goes into choosing the laces, beads and creating each design for a bride. Does it involve travelling overseas to source laces?
At the moment I purchase all my fabrics within Australia. The process of choosing fabrics is my favourite.. the exciting part it’s what makes my designs come to life.
When choosing fabrics, my brides and I will do it together – I use an elimination process.
Now the question we all know too well but tell us again, Who is the “Christie Nicole Bride” and how would you describe her?
The Christie Nicole Bride is fun, flirty, adventurous and daring.
Who is your biggest inspiration to date and also who inspires you on a daily basis?
My Grandma, she has always been by my side through everything, from day one. We have a very special connection. She comes into the office sometimes and lends a helping hand. All my brides love her!
Your most memorable moment of business so far to date?
There is a couple. When I put out for the world to see my creations for my first bride Kym, I all of a sudden had a huge influx of enquiry emails from bride-to-be’s. At this point I didn’t know whether I was going to go into Bridal.. the rest is history!
It has been such an amazing journey and I have only been doing Bridal for 2 years. Things are moving very fast, I’m very excited to see what the future holds.
What is the average prices range for your gowns, we understand that not one gown is the same..
Our packages start at $3500 - $7000. Packages & pricing all depends on style and detailing. A lot of our brides go for our middle package which is the Simply Detailed Package - $5500.
Appointments, how is it best for brides to contact you, and what can they expect from booking in and their first app?
Best way to contact me is via email. First appointment is usually a consultation to meet the bride personally. We will then we go over all the inspiration & details, discuss design and view fabrics to get an idea of what the bride is loving.
