HOW DID YOU MET
Our love story starts with art. I was fascinated by Mitch’s artworks and emailed him and asked to see some while I was visiting Melbourne. He replied with ‘it’s actually all just sold in my gallery here but you can come by my house and check it out’ so I showed up he opened the door, our eyes locked and it was if we both got an electric shock. We spent the evening together and fell so in love with each other. We moved away to Byron bay together less then a week later. Our story is really magical actually we are half way though writing a book about our love story.
YOUR ENGAGEMENT STORY
Mitch actually proposed to me during a plant medicine ceremony in front of 20 or so really close friends. I was not expecting it at all, as earlier in the year we had gotten matching lip tattoos and held a union ceremony and I sort of thought that was our marriage in a way. Then a few months later he starts sharing to the group during ceremony about our love and he is crying and telling me how much our love means to him, and he pulls out a beautiful antique emerald and diamond engagement ring which he later told me represented my light (the diamonds) and my connection to the earth ( emeralds ). I was shocked and in love. Afterwards I took him down to the river and made love. It was the deepest connection I have ever felt with another.
WEDDING LOCATION/ VENUE
We got married at my home, the location is very private and dear to my heart so cannot fully share but I can say it was in the hinterland hills of Byron bay
PREPARATION – COUNTDOWN BEGINS
We had laughter yoga for our guests the night before and a casual dinner this was so fantastic as it loosened not only my nerves but connected guests prior to the event. It reminded us all to be silly, have fun and not take life to seriously. The morning of I woke up had a bath, meditated and had one of my best friends come teach me a private yoga class. I had lots of beautiful friends setting up the venue all day - a huge shout out to @anumundistudio for all her florals and styling. She really helped make my fairytale come to life.
HAIR & MAKEUP
I wore my hair down on the day with various gold clamps and jewels in it, a few messy fish braids and dreadlock style weaves. It was incredible and very me. @sulisbyron do my hair and also did my hair for the wedding. Makeup was by my good friend Larke Walker. It isn’t particularly her profession but she is just really good at it and knew what I would like. I had regular skin sessions leading up to the day with @skindivinitycosmeticclinic which I swear by. Changed my whole skin to glowing
My dress was SO SO SO amazing! I worked on designing it with @kate_willa, I sourced the fabric from Pakistan and we worked together one creating the pixie cut. The dress was really complex as all the jewels and beads were hand sewn on and I had a million requests haha, so I guess it was definitely not simple for Kate. Kate was so talented to work with. She really went above and beyond for me and hand made the whole thing.
I didn’t wear shoes haha, but I had beautiful gold anklets made by @bluelotusdesignaus they were handmade and so so fancy 24kt gold and one offs.
My rings are both made by a silver smith the works with antiques. Both are silver with diamonds and emeralds. I actually made Mitch ring from scratch. I worked in @bluelotusdesignaus studio and made him a really raw royal/ pirate style ring out of raw diamonds and a big Australian emerald.
JEWELLERY & ACCESSORIES
All my jewels were customs and hand made by Georgina @bluelotusdesignaus - we worked together designing the pieces and it had a very traditional Indian feel to it to honour that part of me.
Mitch actually ordered his jacket from a small vintage shop in london. He styled it with his own collection of scarfs, jewellery, boots and hat. He wore black jeans and shirt from @islandluxeofficial
WHAT MARRIAGE MEANS TO YOU
Our wedding was not at all traditional in the ways in which weddings are held. We had a shaman marry us and someone we view as very powerful when it comes to working with universal prays, spirit and magick. Our ceremony was about writing new traditions for this day and age, new ways to look at love, ritual and union. We are no longer in place were we are marrying another for dependence, status, beliefs, finance, or even romance- so why marry at all ? that was a question we asked on several occasions, what does this mean to us and what do we even want out of this union? Mitch & I spent weeks and weeks going over particularly deep questions about our relationship and our life missions. The directions we wanted to go, experiences we wanted to have, what was expected and not expected from being with each other, what would happen if one us did something really hurtful or got really sick or passed. Challenges we might think could arise-opportunities we wanted our union to create-the conversations were actually endless when it came to our relationship. Over the time we wrote a contract out on what we were signing up for when it came to marriage, what we were actually promising and summarised it to 8 powerful lines for our spoken vows on the actual day. The contract mostly came down to this - you are now family to me, and that means I will practice unconditional love with you for the rest of this lifetime- however that looks as the mysteries of life unfold.
Our shaman - Darpan shared a rumi poem, Tibetan rites, ancient prayers, respects to original custodians of the land, a series of traditional and new ways to look at love and a group meditation and blessing during the ceremony.
FLOWER GIRLS/PAGEBOY OUTFITS
Our puppy Jala brought us the rings, she had a little pouch sewn to her collar
Walking down the aisle - Nessi gomes- all related
After kiss - Rolling Stones - sympathy for the devil
A collection of our friends and family that are professional musicians played on rotation during the night
THEME & STYLE
it was definitely a fairy tale wedding / fairy, pixie, goddess, magical, are words that all come to mind
CEREMONY / RECEPTION DÉCOR & DETAILS
DID YOU STICK WITH THE TRADITION OF FAVORS /BONBONNIERE?
We gave our guest honey pots filled with local honey with a ha d written tag saying
Life is sweet ( just add more honey)
Love is sweet ( just add more honey )
You are sweet (just add more honey)
All our Flowers were by Jasmine at @anumundistudi - all flowers were sourced locally and plastic and spray free. I didn’t particularly have a brief for her I just wanted lots of colour and wanted here to have enough so that together as a community the guests could create a huge flower mandala and give blessings and thanks to Mother Nature and beauty. The flower mandala turned out to be so so beautiful
ORGANISATION AND STYLING
We had a dear friend @sarahbethcargill who was a massive help in organising everything, I don't think we could have pulled the day off if I didn't have her by my side helping.
We had live music to start (by family and friends ) and two djs throughout the night for dancing
FOOD & BEVERAGES
@om_cade catered the entire thing, it was a plant based menu for a royal feast of Indian and Sri Lankan curries. We also had huge grazing tables out before the ceremony started and guests arrived
The entire ceremony was so sacred and special. We also took half an hour to ourselves after the ceremony with no others or photographers to just be with each other and integrate what just happened. We had a beautiful dance with each other at sunset and a rainbow appeared in the sky just after we got back from our private moment!
+ the Speeches made me cry from my dad and best friends.
We had three photographers -
@arterium really captured the enchanted magical bohemian vibe of the event
@stormtuiva- a good friend, flown in from NZ
YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT
I think the morning after. Lying in my lovers arms after making love for hours and just giggling and smiling with each other.
HONEYMOON TIME BABY!!!
we have started a little romantic mini moon road trip / boat trip in aus for now but are heading to italy and France in a few months for our honeymoon
IF YOU COULD GIVE OTHER BRIDES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE…
relax. Surrender. I feel like weddings almost take on a life of their own and you just have to flow with it. It all turn out perfect. Get as much help as possible on the day so you can just get ready and enjoy. Really think about what marriage means to you and your relationship and be clear on what your promising each other and want for each other. Lots of flowers. Lots of hot baths leading up.
